About the Artist

 

Adam Whobrey a.k.a Hoobs

 

         Professional Glass Flameworking artist with 25 years experience. Adam studied drawing, music and graphic design as a child. He began flameworking glass in 2001, shortly after graduating high school. Adam found an apprenticeship position as a low-paid production craftsman in Southern California for a retiring Theme park worker. After almost 2 years , he then began to pursue the craft on his own. His personal goals to master the craft came widely from self-teaching over the following years. He states repetitive production along with constantly pushing himself to make new designs and try new techniques are what allowed him to gain a mastery over the medium.  Sculptural realism was always the most fascinating to Adam and has been the focal point of his work for most of his career. His pieces are playful and entertaining and his goal is to make the audience feel like a kid again. 

        Adam has mainly showcased and sold his work outside of the traditional fine-art market. Growing his audience through the use of the internet and social media. But more recently is making a push to bring his art to the forefront of the mainstream art world. He has exhibited and taught workshops all around the US and many other countries including Spain, Germany, Austria, and England. With an ever evolving catalog of work, Adam is in constant pursuit of achieving the highest level of craftsmanship in every piece he creates. Connecting to his audience through relatable topics,  universal experiences and sometimes out of this world ideas. He considers his art an ongoing expression of his life experiences which is in constant change and progression , as is life.  Most recently Adam has demonstrated and taught at the Corning Museum of Glass in NY. And is currently working on a documentary with a touring exhibit about his project called "The Molten Art Classic " where he has gathered top flameworkers from around the country to collaborate and push the scale of this artform to unforeseen heights.
